How to harvest sunflower seeds
A few days ago, my husband and I harvested our sunflowers. Once they started to droop, I cut them off and left them to dry on our porch. It's taken roughly a month and half since then for me to harvest them.
I tried picking the seeds one by one with my fingers, and that didn't work too well. A friend visiting from France showed us how to massage the seeds out with our thumbs, using gentle circular motions.
I'm astounded at how much abundance comes from nature – from the one seed, one sunflower grew, and from that one sunflower, we have so many seeds!
I’d love to share these seeds with anyone who wants to grow these gorgeous giant sunflowers. You can harvest and salt the seeds, or you can simply enjoy the beauty of watching them bloom, while attracting pollinators.
Drop me a line if you’d like some!
